KINGSTON SPRINGS – Cheatham Middle and Harpeth Middle had their first meeting on the basketball
court this season and split the boys and girls contest. Cheatham Middle took the girls game by a score of
27-21, while the Harpeth Indians came back to win the boys game 40-29.
The Cheatham girls team got off to a hot start over the Lady Indians as they took a 12-2 lead by the end
of the first quarter. They never relinquished that lead.
Cheatham stayed up by 10 at the half (19-9), but in the second half, the Lady Indians came out and
played better. However, Cheatham still held on for the win.
“I thought our girls played very well defensively against a good Harpeth team,” Cheatham girls coach
Michael Carter said. “Even though we struggled to score in the second half, the girls never quit fighting
and came away with a good road win.”

In the boys game, Cheatham got out to an early lead taking a 10-6 advantage at the end of the first
quarter. But the Indians charged back and took a 17-13 lead going into half. The third and fourth
quarters were more of the same, as Harpeth held on to win 40-29.
“Our guys shot the ball well and our press helped force some turnovers and create some scoring
opportunities,” Harpeth coach Michael Wallace said. “It was great to see the ball go in the basket after
we struggled to score in our first two games.”
“Caden Duke and Blake Allison provided a spark with defense and three-point shooting,” Wallace said.
“Dakoda Grammer and Landen Perry had good defensive games, while Ryan Marlow and Hayden
Penrod carried us offensively.”
