Both the boys and girls basketball teams for Harpeth traveled to Creek Wood early last week to take part in the Creek Wood Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Harpeth boys won Monday night over East Hickman, 68-57, while the Harpeth girls dropped both games; the first was against Summit, 56-38, and the second was against Dickson County, 53-49.

Aaron McWright and Aiden Williams led Harpeth on Monday night as McWright picked up a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Williams added 18 points, as well.

“We started off slow but came together as a team,” said Harpeth coach Daniel Moman. “The offense really started to click in the second half.”

The second game for Harpeth’s boys team was scheduled to take place Tuesday against Beech, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 protocol.

Harpeth’s girls didn’t find the win column during the tournament, but the Lady Indians played some fierce competition.

Harpeth’s first game Monday night was against Summit that reached the Region 6-AAA quarterfinal last season. Jessi Knall led Harpeth with 13 points, while Cara Stuart added 10.

On Tuesday night, Harpeth faced off against Dickson County. Dickson County went 14-11 last season and finished the year against the same Summit team in the district playoffs.

Dickson led 32-16 at half, but that didn’t keep Harpeth out of it. The Lady Indians fought back to tie the game in the last minute.

Jessi Knall’s 17 points – 12 in the second half – helped Harpeth charge back into the game, along with Ella Russell’s presence inside. Russell scored 10 points in the second half with 12 total and grabbed some clutch rebounds late.

With the game tied at 49, Harpeth had the momentum and the ball, but a costly turnover and a foul on the next possession gave Dickson the win.
