TSSAA state volleyball tournament scoreboard, schedule, photos

The state volleyball tournaments are being held in Murfreesboro at multiple sites Tuesday through Friday.

Here’s what happened on Day 1 of the double-elimination tournaments.

Class A

Loretto 3, Eagleville 0: Loretto cruised in the schools’ first postseason volleyball meeting, winning in straight sets (25-15, 25-6, 25-13).

South Greene 3, Halls 0: South Greene advanced with a 3-0 victory (25-7, 25-12, 25-4) as it tries to reach the state finals for the first time since 2017.

North Greene 3, Westview 0: North Greene advanced (25-5, 25-7, 25-16).

Summertown 3, Sale Creek 1: Defending champion Summertown overcame a slow start to advance (19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-13).

Second-round matchups, Wednesday at Siegel High School: South Greene vs. Loretto, 9:30 a.m. (winners bracket); North Greene vs. Summertown, noon (winners bracket); Halls vs. Eagleville, 2:30 p.m. (losers bracket); Westview vs. Sale Creek, 5 p.m. (losers bracket).

Class AA

Anderson County 3, Hume Fogg 2: Hume-Fogg must battle through the losers bracket in its first state tournament appearance since 2016. Anderson County clinched the five-set thriller (25-19, 19-25, 24-26, 25-13, 15-8) with a huge comeback win in the fourth set.

East Hamilton 3, Lexington 1: East Hamilton advanced (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-13).

Dyer County 3, Lawrence County 0: Dyer County advanced (25-22, 25-15, 25-17).

Signal Mountain 3, Sullivan East 0: Signal Mountain advanced (25-16, 25-23, 27-25).

Second-round pairings, Wednesday at Rockvale: Anderson County vs. East Hamilton, 9:30 a.m. (winners bracket); Dyer County vs. Signal Mountain, noon (winners bracket); Hume Fogg vs. Lexington, 2:30 p.m. (losers bracket); Lawrence County vs. Sullivan East, 5 p.m. (losers bracket).

Class AAA

Hardin Valley 3, Siegel 1: Siegel, one of the many title hopefuls with eight-time defending champion Brentwood left out of the field, must fight through the losers bracket. Hardin Valley advanced into the winners bracket (25-19, 14-25, 25-15, 25-21).

Ravenwood 3, Houston 1: After losing the first set, the Raptors battled back for a 3-1 match victory (22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21).

Collierville 3, Maryville 2: Collierville advanced into the winners bracket in one of the day’s best matches, clinching a victory (20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 15-9).

Cleveland 3, Nolensville 2: Cleveland got out to an 11-7 lead in the decisive fifth set, and that was enough to finish off Nolensville (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 15-10). The Knights had been an upstart in their first season in Class AAA, rolling through district and regional tournament play to become contenders this week.

Second-round pairings, Wednesday at Blackman: Hardin Valley vs. Ravenwood, 9:30 a.m. (winners bracket); Collierville vs. Cleveland, noon (winners bracket); Siegel vs. Houston, 2:30 p.m. (losers bracket); Maryville vs. Nolensville, 5 p.m. (losers bracket).

Division II-A

Notre Dame 3, Concord Christian 1: Notre Dame’s quest for the title since finishing runner-up last year began with a first-set loss and ended with a comeback in two tight finishing sets (21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-23).

BGA 3, Northpoint Christian 1: BGA won the match 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 25-11, 25-23). Mac Huntington clinched a momentum-shifting third set, and Kyra Hampton set up the match-clinching point in a decisive 25-23 fourth set victory to advance into the winners bracket against 2020 state runner-up Notre Dame.

Concord Christian 3, Northpoint Christian 1 (elimination game): Concord knocked Northpoint out of the field (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-10).

Second-round pairings, Wednesday at MTCS: Notre Dame vs. BGA, 9:30 a.m. (winners bracket); Concord Christian vs. Notre Dame/BGA loser, noon (losers bracket).

Division II-AA

Briarcrest 3, Ensworth 0: Ensworth faces a long road out of the losers bracket after falling (25-17, 25-18, 25-12) to Briarcrest, which won its 21st consecutive match.

Knoxville Catholic 3, Father Ryan 0: Knoxville Catholic swept the Irish (25-23, 25-19, 25-15).

Father Ryan 3, Ensworth 2 (elimination): Father Ryan eliminated Ensworth (20-25, 25-17, 25-12, 19-25, 15-12) in the late match. 

Second-round pairings, Wednesday at MTCS: Briarcrest vs. Father Ryan/Knoxville Catholic winner, 2:30 p.m. (winners bracket); Losers bracket finals, 5 p.m. (elimination game).
