Sycamore boys down Harpeth for third place in district tourney

GREENBRIER — With four players scoring in double figures, the Sycamore War Eagles brushed aside the Harpeth Indians, 75-51, to claim third place in the District 9-AA tournament at Greenbrier last Monday, Feb. 18.

Sycamore’s Dawson Yoes led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Daniel Saylor added 16. Dalton Dutton and Trevor Gagnon scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

“We just wanted to play hard,” Sycamore coach Toby Miles said. “We stunk it up Saturday night, so I just wanted our guys to play hard. That was our focus.”

Daniel Bandy led the Indians with 19 points, while Aiden Williams added another 12.

“On our traps tonight, our guys were rotating so that opened up a lot of offense for us,” Miles said. “They did a good job of helping their teammates out. Our starting five played very well tonight and our bench contributed as well.”

The War Eagles gave up the game’s first five points before going on a run where they outscored Harpeth 10-3. Sycamore finished the first quarter up 18-12.

The War Eagles started the second quarter hot, outscoring the Indians 16-3 on the way to a 42-24 half-time lead. They stretched their lead to 62-36 after three quarters.

The win advanced Sycamore into the Region 5-AA tournament where they will meet Pearl-Cohn in the quarterfinals at Pearl-Cohn on Monday. Harpeth will travel to MLK for its regional quarterfinal game also on Monday night.
