While the White House Heritage girls basketball is streaking, the boys team is skidding in the opposite direction.
The Patriots lost to Sycamore 54-38 on Monday and 46-26 on Tuesday to fall to 4-4 in District 9-AA play. Heritage (9-13) has lost four straight and five of its last six. Sycamore (16-3, 8-0) extended its win streak to 13.
“We’ve had a rough couple of weeks with close losses and then back-to-back bad games versus Sycamore,” Heritage coach Carl Miller said. “We’ve had long discussions as a team on what we have to do to get back to playing better and to finish out strong.”
Sycamore senior Daniel Saylor scored 23 points in Monday’s win. Bailey Chapman and Derek Underwood added 12 points apiece.
The next night, Saylor led the way with 12, while Grady McPherson added nine and Chapman and John Hale each scored eight. The War Eagles led 28-12 at halftime.
Heritage struggled offensively in both games. Daniel Bale had eight on Monday and 11 on Tuesday.
But the Patriots shot just 17 percent in the second game and went 0-for-16 on three-point attempts. Miller’s squad, which has just two seniors and averages 47 points per game, also failed to pass the 30-point threshold.
“Consistency has been an issue all year,” Miller said. “They’re young but receptive. Hopefully we will get back on track these next few games.”
Heritage was set to travel to Westmoreland on Friday before hosting Greenbrier on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Sycamore hit the road for White House on Friday and Santa Fe on Tuesday.
