Sycamore welcomed Greenbrier to town on Tuesday this past week before the weather hit and split with the Bobcats after the Lady War Eagles won 40-19 and Greenbrier won the boys game 61-59.
In the girls’ game, Sycamore took an early 8-5 lead and controlled the game from there on out.
At half, Sycamore started to pull away taking a 21-7 lead and then allowed only two points in the third quarter to pull away for the 40-19 win.
Olivia Stuard led Sycamore with 15 points and Kyra Shearon added eight while Greenbrier was led by both Abby Stacey and Keren Poha with six points each.
The boys’ game was much more exciting as it came down to the final possession to declare a winner.
In the previous meeting this year, Greenbrier’s Bobcats won easily by a score of 71-27 but Sycamore stayed around until the end in this matchup.
Sycamore led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and held the one-point lead at half up 30-29.
With only 30 seconds remaining, Greenbrier went to the stripe and knocked down two free throws to take a 61-59 lead. Sycamore had the ball and one shot but it didn’t fall.
DJ Jackson led Greenbrier with 13 points as Jayce Mangrum added 12. Brayden Rector, Derek Taylor and Nolan Carson all scored 10 points each. Charlie Thomason led Sycamore with 30 points and knocked down five three-pointers.
