PLEASANT VIEW – Even though many athletes enjoyed down time over winter break, the Sycamore wrestling team has been busy and working hard.

The varsity, junior varsity and girls teams are all focused on their 2020 goals. The teams are under the leadership of coach Steve Hamblin and assistant coach Daniel Waltman.

On Saturday, Dec. 21, the Sycamore varsity team participated in the Bruise Brothers Brawl, an individual wrestling tournament at Springfield High School. 12 teams participated in the tournament, and some teams had 12 or more individual wrestlers on the mats.

Due to sickness, Sycamore only had seven varsity wrestlers competing. The War Eagles finished the tournament with five individual medalists. Logan Heckert and Nathan Thorbjornsen won first place, Preston Castleberry and Luke London took second place and Mark Helser finished in third place.

Overall, Sycamore finished fourth out of the 12 teams. The junior varsity and girls wrestlers participated in matches at Wilson Central on the same day.

Sycamore will host an important match on Jan. 24. The Battle of Cheatham County is set for 5:30 p.m. that night.
