Storylines to watch

Can Rossview girls repeat? Clarksville has become a hotbed for girls wrestling as the sport makes its ascent in Tennessee. Rossview won last year’s first girls dual state title with a 39-27 win over Clarksville. Both teams are back in the field along with Gibbs and Cleveland.

Will anyone unseat Cleveland or Baylor?: Baylor is enjoying a dominant four-year run as the Division II champion. With the division split into two classes since last year there is an extra piece of hardware available, and Friendship Christian and BGA are both eligible for it in the Division II A-AA. But Baylor could still win its fifth in a row in Division II-AAA.

Cleveland has won five consecutive Class AA titles after last year’s unbeaten 21-0 season. Wilson Central, the 2021 state runner-up, is back in the field as one of the teams trying to change that course. Other Midstate teams from Rossview, Summit and Brentwood are competing too.

Can Page break through while in Class A?: Page (32-8) will move up to Class AA next season, so this weekend is a chance to snare a championship before the competition pool gets bigger. At 285 pounds Ronan O’Connell, who has attracted much Division I attention as an offensive lineman, is set to compete for the Patriots.

The 2021 champion Fairview (39-5), along with Tullahoma (20-8) and Sycamore (24-19) are also in the Class A field.

Williamson County Schools will be well represented with Page, Summit (Class AA), Brentwood (Class AA) and Fairview all competing.
