2021-22 Main Street Preps All-Midstate boys and girls cross country teams

Main Street Preps has named its 2021-22 All-Midstate boys and girls cross country teams.

The All-Midstate teams include six runners, in addition to the Runner of the Year and Team of the Year awards.

Boys

Runner of the Year: Miles Ramer (Ravenwood, So.)

Ramer’s 15:10.35 run won the Class AAA meet at Sanders Ferry Park and was the top boys time in any class. It was 42 seconds faster than his 15:52.70 Region 6-AAA championship finish and the fastest Class AAA champion time since 2016.

Team of the Year: Central Magnet

The Tigers’ Class A-AA championship was the program’s second title, adding to the 2013 crown. In addition to posting the best total team time (1:25:08.65) of any Nashville-area state champion, Central is the area’s first small-school public champion since 2014.

All-Midstate boys team

Brody Chapman (Brentwood, Jr.): Chapman took fifth place in the Class AAA championship with a 15:44.08 finish.

Callahan Fielder (Brentwood, Fr.): Fielder placed eighth in his state meet debut, running a 15:51.72 in Class AAA.

Connor Henson (Columbia Academy, Sr.): Henson repeated as champion with a 15:37.27 time in the Division II-A finals, helping his team finish third. His finish was the area’s second fastest overall.

Jackson Martin (Creek Wood, Jr.): The junior ran the area’s third-fastest time, a 15.41.69 that clinched the Class A-AA title.

Brennan Thomas (Siegel, Sr.): Thomas pushed hard for a top-five finish. His 15:45.54 placed him sixth in Class AAA.

Luke Thompson (Brentwood Academy, So.): Thompson ran a 15:53.37 and finished runner-up to Division II-AA champion Keegan Smith. He helped Brentwood Academy finish second as a team.

Girls 

Runner of the Year: Abby Faith Cheeseman (Webb School, Fr.)

Cheeseman repeated as the Division II-A champion in dominant fashion. Her 17:26.91 finish cleared the field by more than a minute and a half and was the fastest girls championship time in any class.

Team of the Year: Brentwood

Despite graduating five seniors from its 2020 state title team, Brentwood repeated as Class AAA champion to cap its second straight unbeaten season. It outscored second-place Farragut by 21 points. Three Bruins — Lydia Cromwell (sixth), Brooke Tyll (12th) and Peyton Strauss (13th) — finished in the top 15.

All-Midstate Girls Team

Lydia Cromwell (Brentwood, Fr.): Cromwell led Brentwood’s deep group with a run of 18:38.20 that placed sixth in Class AAA.

Bella Guillamondegui (Harpeth Hall, Jr.): Guillamondegui, a heavy favorite last year, came back strong to win the Division II-AA championship. Her 18:22.80 finish was the third-best in any class.

Emma Kate Hamby (Central Magnet, Sr.): Hamby was runner-up in Class A-AA, finishing in 18:52.62 to help push Central to its second team championship. The Tigers won their first in 2016.

Jayne Halterman (Independence, So.): Halterman finished fifth in the Class AAA championship with a 18.38.00 time.

Kyra Hayes (Siegel, Sr.): Hayes improved upon her sixth place in the Class AAA championship a year ago, claiming the individual crown with a 18:05.30 time that was second-fastest in any class.

Samantha Ouelette (Central Magnet, Sr.): Her first-place finish of 18.31.37 won the championship and powered Central to the team title, breaking Signal Mountain’s run of four consecutive crowns.
