HENDERSONVILLE — Brentwood Academy secured win number 15 on the season Tuesday night, downing host Pope Prep 45-33 in Hendersonville.
The win improves the Eagles to 5-3 in league play, with a home tilt against St. Cecilia approaching Friday.
A 13-11 Brentwood Academy lead quickly turned in favor of the Eagles as Rhonda Brown’s squad reeled off 20-11 run over the following eight minutes of game action.
Trinity Fields led her team with 14 points, Hope McDonald scored 12 points, and Millie Brown added nine.
Academy routinely got to the rim and won the rebounding margin but struggled to find the bottom of the net on easy shots. The adversity to battle through is what stands out to Brown.
“We missed a lot of layups tonight,” she said. “They just weren’t falling, so to see them battle was nice. Also, seeing them control the offensive glass was good. We may have missed it four times, but at least we would get four offensive rebounds.”
Pope Prep clawed back in the third quarter slowly, trimming their deficit to as little as nine, but an ill-time turnover, shot, or breakdown on defense would always haunt the Lady Knights.
Bethany Howard scored 17 points over the Eagles, while Katelyn O’Neill added eight points.
The Lady Knights, now 10-11, 0-8, will face Lipscomb Academy at home Friday before beginning a three-game road trip at the likes of Father Ryan, Ensworth and Harpeth Hall.
