Donelson Christian put on a defensive clinic last Friday night at Ezell-Harding Christian in Antioch, defeating the Eagles 55-31.

The Wildcats were held below their season average in points, but their defense was even more stifling. In a physical game, Ezell-Harding Christian was held to its season low in points.

Donelson Christian coach Nate Johnson was thrilled with his defense’s performance.

“I thought our defense was fantastic,” Johnson said. “Our offense wasn’t really working in the first half. But then our defense really picked it up. I think that’s what makes our offense go. In the second half, we had a lot more pep in our step, and that really fueled our offense on the other end.”

Senior guard Ben Singer led the Wildcats in points again with 14, but the big men gave a big boost Friday night with rebounds on both ends, as well as scoring when the opportunities came along.

“[Forwards] Jaden [Carman] and Blake [Anderson] were awesome inside. They were great. They played smart. They were great on the boards. We ran a couple sets for them. Jaden had a mismatch in there.”

Carman pulled down a number of rebounds to keep plays alive in the first half, and that ultimately led to more production on the floor.

“Usually, I just do my best to score,” Carman said. “This game, I was hustling on the boards, and that’s what helped me. I just try to find the open spot, and when I’m open from three or mid-range, I try to hit it.”

The Wildcats are about halfway through their district schedule and are in the hunt to make the district tournament. Johnson’s team is putting it all together at the right time.

“I think our guys are playing with a lot of confidence, which is good,” Johnson saidl “We’re getting ready to start season No. 2, really, starting back up with USN and Goodpasture. I like where we’re at. I think we’re playing hard, playing smart.”

Donelson Christian will be back in action Thursday night at University School of Nashville.
