Girls soccer: 35 high school players from the Nashville area to watch in 2022

TSSAA soccer regular-season games begin next week on Aug. 15.

Here are 35 players to keep an eye on this fall. Names are listed alphabetically by school.

Keaton Mitchell (MF, BGA, Sr.): The Tennessee commitment scored 21 goals with 13 assists for the Division II-A runner-up Wildcats last season.

Eva Schreiber (MF, BGA, Sr.): Schreiber led BGA with 29 goals and six assists in 2021.

Reily Gusman (F/MF, Central Magnet, Jr.): Gusman’s 14 goals and six assists lifted Central Magnet to its first-ever state championship game appearance in 2021.

Julia Ann Hamilton (F, Central Magnet, Jr.): Hamilton is a playmaker for the Tigers. She notched seven goals and 12 assists last season.

Rebekah Allen (MF, Clarksville, So.): Allen was an immediate factor in the midfield as a freshman. She will look to build on her nine goals and six assists from a year ago.

Virginia Glisson (DEF, CPA, Sr.): Glisson was the center back on a CPA defense that allowed just 1.33 goals per match last season.

Breahn Fisher (MF, Ensworth, So.): Fisher’s standout freshman campaign landed her on the 2021 Main Street Preps All-Midstate team.

LilyAnn McElroy (GK, Fairview, Sr.): McElroy can stand tall even when she’s peppered by constant shots. The TSWA All-State selection made 210 saves and posted five shutouts in 2021.

Olivia Prim (DEF, Father Ryan, Sr.): Although Prim primarily plays center back, she still led Father Ryan in goals with nine last year. She also had five assists and helped the Irish limit region opponents to just two goals.

Avery Brown (DEF, Franklin, Sr.): The Ole Miss commitment earned All-District and All-State honors a year ago for being one of the area’s top defensive players.

Margaret DeFranco (MF, Franklin, Sr.): The Samford commitment was an All-State selection when Franklin finished as the Class AAA state runner-up in 2020 and an All-District honoree last year.

Grace Moore (MF, Harpeth Hall, Sr.): Moore is again expected to be a key leader for the defending Division II-AA champion Honeybears after leading the team in assists last season.

Reagan Tate (DEF, Hendersonville, Sr.): The Murray State commitment was an All-District and All-Sumner County performer last year.

Silvia Shirey (F, Hume-Fogg, So.): As a freshman last year, Shirey scored 30 goals and added 10 assists to lead the Blue Knights to the District 10-AAA championship.

Sydney Arreza (F, Merrol Hyde, So.): Arreza netted 32 goals as the primary scoring threat for the Hawks in their run to their first-ever state title.

Emily Campos (DEF, Nashville Christian, Sr.): Campos was vital to Nashville Christian’s first-ever state final four berth. She led a defense that allowed just three goals during the regular season.

Ava Pomeroy (F, Nashville Christian, Sr.): The 2021 All-District, All-Region and All-State selection is back for more after a standout junior year. She scored in all but two games and finished with 23 goals.

Kayla Howell (MF, Nolensville, Jr.): Howell is a Division I college prospect who is expected to be an immediate contributor after transferring from Western Albemarle High School in Virginia, where she was a starter for the school’s state championship team.

Maddie Padelski (F, Nolensville, So.): Padelski racked up numerous postseason awards, including 2021 Main Street Preps Girls Soccer Player of the Year, following a breakout freshman season that included 31 goals and seven assists.

Cece Szopa (GK, Nolensville, Sr.): The Alabama-Huntsville commitment makes the Knights’ defense difficult to crack. She held a 0.622 goals-against average last year.

Serenity Petaia (F, Northwest, Sr.): After scoring 28 goals last season, Petaia has picked up right where she left off. The senior recently netted five goals in a preseason game against Hillsboro.

Leah Krugh (F, Oakland, So.): Krugh tallied 17 goals and 11 assists to earn District 8-AAA Offensive MVP honors as a freshman.

Kate Nelson (F, Page, Sr.): The North Alabama commitment led the Class AA state champion Patriots in scoring with 15 goals and nine assists last year.

Gracie Segundo (F, Page, Sr.): The Belmont commitment was successful as a scorer and playmaker last season. She finished with 10 goals and 13 assists.

Abby Thornton (MF, Page, Sr.): The North Alabama commitment scored eight goals with four assists in 2021. Thornton has been an All-State selection each of the past two seasons.

Katie Shea Collins (F, Pope Prep, Jr.): Collins produced 21 goals and nine assists despite playing in just nine games as a sophomore.

Leah Johnson (DEF, Ravenwood, Sr.): Johnson is a threat on offense and defense. She netted nine goals and was named to the All-District team in 2021.

Bella Macaso (F, Ravenwood, Sr.): Macaso scored 17 goals and assisted on six others to earn All-District honors last season.

Jenna Woods (DEF, Rockvale, Sr.): Woods anchored the Rockets’ back line and earned District 8-AAA Defensive MVP as a junior.

Kristen DeSantis (F, Rossview, Jr.): DeSantis led the Hawks with 14 goals and four assists in 2021.

Emrie Springs (F, Station Camp, Jr.): Springs tied Elle Williams for the team lead in goals last year with 23. Now that Williams is set to miss her senior campaign due to a preseason ACL injury, Springs and Ayden Wood are expected to shoulder an even bigger offensive workload.

Ayden Wood (F, Station Camp, So.): Woods is looking to build on a productive freshman year that included 20 goals and 16 assists.

Bekah Jackson (MF, Warren County, Sr.): Jackson was second on her team in scoring last year with 26 goals and nine assists.

Madison Bennett (F, West Creek, Jr.): The 2021 Main Street Preps All-Montgomery County Girls Soccer Player of the Year returns after netting 19 goals with four assists as a sophomore.

Macey Gardner (MF/DEF, White House Heritage, Sr.): Gardner has developed a reputation for being a standout defensive player, but coach Mark Redferrin is looking for her to become a dual threat in the midfield this season.
