Kentucky football has widened its recruiting footprint in Nashville.

Pearl-Cohn senior and four-star prospect Barion Brown on Wednesday committed to the Wildcats over Alabama, Ole Miss and TCU, among others, giving UK’s 2022 recruiting class three of the top eight seniors in Middle Tennessee.

He joins Summit twins Keaten (linebacker) and Destin Wade (linebacker) as Kentucky commitments. They’re the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 12 seniors, respectively, in Tennessee according to 247Sports. All are four-star prospects ranked among the top 20 at their positions nationally.

Brown compiled 1,128 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns in seven games for Pearl-Cohn (11-2) during its run to the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

His Week 2 performance against Division II-AAA state finalist MBA is noteworthy — Brown put up 297 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, including a 93-yard score that helped push Pearl-Cohn to a 26-21 win.

Brown projects as a receiver or defensive back in college, but his speed and downfield ability are such that Pearl-Cohn used him at quarterback in the wildcat formation, receiver, defensive back, running back and kick returner.

He’s a back-to-back state champion sprinter in the 100- and 200-meter dash and owns Pearl-Cohn records in both events. His 10.49-second time in the 100 in spring of 2021 is the third-fastest TSSAA state meet time since 1985, in any class.
