The state volleyball tournaments are being held in Murfreesboro at multiple sites Tuesday through Friday.
Here’s what you need to know about the double-elimination tournaments.
First-round matchups, Tuesday at Siegel High School: Halls (21-2) vs. South Greene (36-3), 9:30 a.m.; Eagleville (21-9) vs. Loretto (38-8), noon; Westview (19-8) vs. North Greene (20-14), 2:30 p.m.; Sale Creek (29-11) vs. Summertown (40-4), 5 p.m.
Who’s on a roll: Defending champion Summertown has won nine in a row since losing to Class AAA Nolensville.
Keep an eye on: Loretto senior Karly Weathers. The Alabama basketball commitment leads the team with 529 kills.
First-round matchups, Tuesday at Rockvale: Hume-Fogg (31-6) vs. Anderson County (35-11), 9:30 a.m.; East Hamilton (28-5) vs. Lexington (34-4), noon; Lawrence County (33-9) vs. Dyer County (38-11), 2:30 p.m.; Signal Mountain (17-16) vs. Sullivan East (21-7), 5 p.m.
Who’s on a roll: With Nolensville moving up to Class AAA, there will be a new AA champion. Anderson County has won nine matches in a row behind leader Jayce Braden (194 kills this year).
Keep an eye on: Hume-Fogg’s Nya Brown and the Blue Knights, who are back in the state tournament for the first time since 2016.
First-round matchups, Tuesday at Blackman: Hardin Valley (32-11) vs. Siegel (29-12), 9:30 a.m.; Houston (24-10) vs. Ravenwood (24-13), noon); Maryville (32-8) vs. Collierville (37-7), 2:30 p.m.; Nolensville (38-3) vs. Cleveland (36-11), 5 p.m.
Who’s on a roll: Nolensville has been red-hot winning 12 matches in a row. The Knights took down eight-time defending state champion Brentwood in a district tournament.
Keep an eye on: Siegel. The Stars went unscathed through their district and regional tournaments. Brooke Gilleland has 604 kills this season.
First-round matchups, Tuesday at MTCS: Notre Dame (28-5) vs. Concord Christian (20-13), 9:30 a.m.; BGA (28-2) vs. Northpoint Christian (26-4), 11:30 a.m.; Notre Dame/Concord loser vs. BGA/North Point Christian loser, 1:30 p.m.
Who’s on a roll: BGA has won 12 of 13 matches heading into its second consecutive state tournament appearance.
Keep an eye on: Last year’s champion, Goodpasture, isn’t in the field. Notre Dame, last year’s runner-up, has lost just two sets since Sept. 27.
First-round matchups, Tuesday at MTCS: Ensworth (17-8) vs. Briarcrest (38-2), 9:30 a.m.; Father Ryan (17-6) vs. Knoxville Catholic (31-9), 5:30 p.m.; Ensworth/Briarcrest loser vs. Father Ryan Knoxville Catholic loser, 7:30 p.m.
Who’s on a roll: Briarcrest, last year’s champion and winner of four of the last five Division II-AA titles, has won 20 consecutive matches. It’s a balanced lineup led by Kendall Barnes, who has recorded 284 kills.
Keep an eye on: Ensworth junior Hannah Scott. She has 211 kills to go with 324 digs. The Tigers have the toughest first-round matchup in the bracket.
