Both the Cougars’ and Lady Cougars’ basketball teams will be starting the district tournament at or near the bottom of the bracket. Dickson County’s boys team was supposed to begin the district tournament on Sunday evening but that was postponed for Monday, February 22.
Now, the Cougars will face Spring Hill at Franklin High School on Monday at 4:30 and the winner is scheduled to face Franklin later that same day. Against Spring Hill, Dickson was able to get both of its district wins coming by scores of 58-43 and 84-67.
The game against Spring Hill may or may not be the final game of the season for Dickson County, but it is just the start of the playoff journey for the young Cougar squad. With a first-round win against Spring Hill, Franklin would be next.
Franklin is led by head coach Jason Tigert. Tigert was a former Dickson County coach and in both regular season meetings Franklin was able to defeat Dickson handily.
If Dickson can defeat Spring Hill and then defeat Franklin, which is no small task, the next matchup would be the winner of the Page and Independence game. Ravenwood and Centennial will play on the bottom of the bracket along with Brentwood and Summit as well.
The Lady Cougars’ path to advance has its own twists and turns as well. Dickson County’s first matchup will be against Page. Page defeated Dickson County in both contest this season by scores of 75-52 and 76-36. That game will take place on Monday as well with the game starting at 5:30.
A win against Page would bring on the winner of Spring Hill and Franklin. Dickson County was able to defeat Franklin earlier this year 88-82 but lost its last meeting against Franklin 55-52. Spring Hill swept the season series against Dickson this season.
Brentwood, the number one seed, will face the winner of Centennial and Independence while Summit and Ravenwood also meet in the other side of the bracket.
