Creek Wood’s 4x200 girls relay team finished seventh at sectional qualifying last week, ending the season for both the Red Hawks and Lady Red Hawks teams.
The relay team of Mallory Blaylock, Allie Burgess, Josephine Hosang and Anna Edmondson set a school record with its qualifying time, the sixth time they have lowered the time this season.
Coach Rusty Wells announced he is leaving the program to become the football coach and track and field coach at the new Burns Middle School.
“Last night’s meet was my last meet as a track and field coach for Creek Wood,” Wells said. “It was very tough to say good bye to everyone as I had goals to get most of them to state championships this year.
“We’ve been dealt a bad hand, along with some other small schools, in being placed in the large schools division for track and field, making it hard to compete against schools with way more athletes than us. I felt really bad for a lot of our athletes because some of them deserved better than that for a chance to go to Murfreesboro in their events with the numbers they had, especially our girls team.”
