Creek Wood defeated Montgomery Central 67-55 last Thursday evening after trailing throughout most of the game.

Rex Edmondson led Creek Wood with 15 points, while Raekwonn Nesbitt scored 14 points, and Braden Dawson added 12 of his own, but Montgomery Central’s Asante Wimberly led all scorers with 21 points.

Montgomery Central outscored Creek Wood in both the first and second periods, taking a 33-27 lead to the half, but the Indians held a 10-point lead with just a few minutes left before half until a quick score with a turnover, and another score brought lead to six.

Early in the third period, one mistake led to another, and Creek Wood pulled back to within one score until Montgomery Central’s Wimberly took things into his own hands. Wimberly called an early timeout, and on his way to the bench told Montgomery Central coach Mike Brown he wanted to call the timeout. Wimberly then spent the entirety of the timeout giving his teammates a pep talk.

It slowed Creek Wood for the time being, but didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things as Creek Wood went on to outscore Montgomery Central 23-8 in the final period behind seven points from Nesbitt and six from Dawson. Freshman Jamison Ford added four points, and Edmondson scored four points, as well. The Creek Wood offense scored 23 points in that final period, but it was the defense holding Montgomery Central to eight points that ended up as the real difference.
