Dickson County has rescheduled its game against LaVergne for Friday, October 8. MARTY ALLISON

In what was a bizarre turn of events on Friday afternoon, Dickson County’s football game against LaVergne was canceled due to a clerical error.

“I want everyone to understand we are willing to play literally any time any place,” Dickson coach Greg Burns said. “I’m not just disappointed, I’m furious that someone’s mistake is robbing our guys and most of all our seniors of an opportunity to compete.”

Burns was told that the Metro Referee Association never entered the game in the portal and that’s why officials were not assigned. LaVergne didn’t notice until Friday afternoon.

“I suggested playing on Saturday, they declined,” Burns said. “I told him we would play any day next week and they said they don’t know if they could play because of break and people being out of town such as administration, gate workers and others. We will be without several guys as well due to break but we’ll play with whoever we have.”

Luckily, the two schools were able to come together and have next week as a makeup time for the game. The game will still be at LaVergne at 7:00 pm.

LaVergne is 1-5 on the season and the Wolverines only win is a forfeit against Antioch.
