Jesus Sanchez signed his letter of intent to play soccer at Bethel University this past week. The Dickson County Cougar Soccer standout was surrounded by his friends and family as he signed.

Sanchez was very excited to sign his letter of intent and he’s even more excited to get to the next step.

“I’m ready to begin this next chapter in my career,” Sanchez said. “I just ended my high school career so I’m ready for it.”

“Bethel is closer to home and they’re a great program,” Sanchez said about why he picked Bethel. “It’ll be a great experience to see how I can compete against some top players. They’ve got some international players on the team and they play some great competition.”

Getting to this point takes a lot of hard work and discipline but Sanchez knows he didn’t get him by himself. It took a lot from the people around him and he was very appreciative.

“First of all, I want to thank both of my coaches, Coach (Chris) Cardona and Coach (Greg) Breese, they’ve been with me all four years,” Sanchez said. “I want to say thanks to them for how they helped me develop as a player. Also, my family sacrificed a lot. Between my mom and Dad, they did everything they could to get me to practice or travel ball games. They were there to support me the entire way and so were my soccer friends.”

Sanchez wants to major in accounting and possibly minor in business management and that was a big part of the reason why Bethel was the choice.

“They have some great programs,” Sanchez said. “I’m just excited. The professors up there are great and the teacher-to-student ratio is very low so with me being an athlete I’m going to be able to get even more help if I need it.”
