Mostradamus speaks: Week 10 predictions

Regular-season play winds down, postseason play starts to take shape, and Mostradamus continues to roll.

The turbaned prognosticator has maintained an extended hot streak, hovering right around an 85-percent accuracy rate, as the schedule enters its final two weeks before playoffs.

As teams want to play their best ball down the stretch, Mostradamus eyes a similar outcome. Let’s see what that looks like.

(Record, current Main Street Preps Top 25 ranking [where applicable] in parentheses.)

Clarksville Acad. (5-3, 1-2) at Columbia Acad. (3-4, 1-2): Against the No. 5 team in that week’s Associated Press DII-A poll, the Bulldogs fell 31-14 to Nashville Christian. It was CA’s second loss to a Top 5 team this fall, to go with defeats at the hands of defending state titlist Donelson Christian and to Boyd Buchanan and the state’s all-time winningest coach. Suffice it to say Columbia Academy has been tested thus far, and expect those tests to begin paying off. Sophomore RB Montae Baldwin is 174 yards short of his second 1,000-yard season, and the Bulldogs may have found a little something in the passing game against Nashville Christian, as sophomore QB Elisha Nieves threw for 185 yards and a TD. Harrison Brownlee was on the receiving end of 10 passes for 141 yards and that score. Clarksville Academy had been in feast-or-famine mode – winning or losing its previous seven games by 15 points or more – before a 27-22 league victory over Grace Christian in Week 8. Expect another close one. Columbia Acad. 28, Clarksville Acad. 21.

East Hickman (3-5) at Richland (6-2): Behind Ethan Workman (21 offensive TDs) and Bryce Miller, points haven’t been a problem for the Raiders. Last week’s 42-41 win at Forrest marked the team’s sixth 28-point effort. But Richland has also allowed at least that many in each of their last four outings, dropping two of those decisions. Getting back in gear defensively, against a team averaging 18 points per game, will be the key as the Raiders try to maintain their momentum heading into a pivotal regular-season finale. Richland 35, East Hickman 24.

Independence (4-4) at Page (7-1, No. 11): Both teams are coming off open dates – which has given the Patriots two weeks to marinate in their first loss of the year and their first regular-season defeat since a 49-38 decision at the hands of these same Eagles in 2021. With Colin Hurd and Brooks Sapone at the trigger of the respective attacks, this one could be another shootout. Independence seems to be hitting its stride of late with Sapone, WRs Daniel Morales and Steele Katina and RB Tre Hartwell, pushing Brentwood to overtime before falling 24-23 and rallying for a 26-21 Border Battle win over Summit. Prior to their 27-21 OT loss at Nolensville, Page had outscored its seven opponents by 20 points per contest. Page 31, Independence 27.

Mt. Pleasant (6-1) at Spring Hill (0-8): Since a 35-27 loss at Lincoln County in Week 5, Spring Hill has scored just once – with less than four minutes remaining in an eventual 42-7 loss to Coffee County. The Raiders have been blanked in each of their last two outings, Region 6-5A losses to Nolensville (42-0) and Franklin County (49-0). There may not be much of a letup against a Mt. Pleasant team that wrapped up the Region 5-2A title last week and suffered its only defeat of the year to Columbia Central. The Tigers’ big-play ability could be the antidote to Spring Hill’s need to shorten the game. Mt. Pleasant 27, Spring Hill 13.

Shelbyville (1-7) at Summit (1-7): A game that has been a prelude to postseason play for both squads over the past few years will lack that luster this time around. Shelbyville comes into the game following a 32-31 win over region foe Warren County, while the Spartans have dropped six straight since their Week 2 victory over Spring Hill – though they did build an 18-point first-half lead over Independence in their last outing before falling, and pushed a highly touted Beech squad on the road. In a contest that looks even, expect the hosts to pull it out. Summit 24, Shelbyville 20.

Summertown (2-6) at Lewis Co. (7-1): The Panthers, eying a Week 11 showdown with Riverside for the Region 6-2A title, have been dominant at times since losing at Fayetteville in the second week of the season – and likely have not forgotten last year’s 7-6 loss to the Eagles. Summertown, meanwhile, has struggled throughout the season and has been outscored 69-7 in its last two contests, Region 5-2A matchups with Loretto and Mt. Pleasant. This one projects to be a tough trip. Lewis Co. 31, Summertown 13.

Last week: 4-1 (.800)

Season: 48-9 (.842)
