Sam Edwards and the Richland Raiders broke into the win column Friday night with a 42-7 win over visiting Hickman County.

Richland scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back in a decisive 42-7 win Friday over visiting Hickman County.

The Raiders (1-2) put their home opener to bed early, outscoring the Bulldogs (2-2) by a 21-0 margin for the vast majority of the first half. Hickman County notched its lone touchdown of the night to trim it to 21-7 with 3:41 left in the second quarter.

The second half saw the Raiders bust loose for 21 more points, topping out at 42 — the most in a ballgame since they scored 41 in a victory versus Zion Christian last October.

Senior Sam Edwards ran 15 times for 117 yards and one touchdown, and nearly had a second when his fumble at the 2-yard line was recovered by the Raiders in the end zone for the game’s opening score.

Richland quarterback Bryce Miller was a tidy 7-of-8 passing on the night, with two passes going for scores. Miller pushed the lead to 14-0 late in the first quarter on a 75-yard bomb to Ethan Workman, then added a 12-yard toss to Tyler Seals late in the third.

Hickman County was held to just 118 yards of total offense in the lopsided defeat.

Richland returns to Region 5-2A action next Friday night when it hosts Cascade.

LAWRENCE CO. 21, GREENBRIER 0: Alex Carr tossed a touchdown in the second quarter and added a second in the fourth to lead the host Wildcats to their first Region 5-4A triumph.

Lawrence County (3-1, 1-1) led late in the opening period following a 2-yard Kenny Tharpe scoring run.

From there, the Wildcats relied on the arm of Carr, who completed just three passes on the night -- but two went for scores.

Carr connected with Jakabri Stevenson for an 11-yard TD midway through the second quarter, then found Rettick Wells on a 3-yard strike early in the fourth.

Defensively, the Wildcats had more than enough points on the board, forcing six turnovers in the shutout win. The shutout was the first by the Wildcat defense since they blanked Hickman County in last year’s season opener.

Despite outgaining Lawrence County, the Bobcats (1-3, 1-1) were blanked for the second time this season.

Lawrence County continues region play next Friday when it travels to Pearl Cohn.

LORETTO 41, WAYNE CO. 14: Caden Porter ran for five touchdowns, all in the first half, as the host Mustangs put up a dominant performance.

The junior tailback ran roughshod in for the Mustangs (2-2), racking up 205 yards on just 13 carries.

Loretto ran for 293 yards on the night, with Kase Tucker adding a 26-yard jaunt to paydirt late in the first quarter as the lone tally not delivered by Porter.

After the game’s opening 12 minutes, the Mustangs led 27-7 and outscored the Wildcats (1-3) 14-7 in the second frame.

The game was shortened to two quarters after Wayne County's Timmy Robbins was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a precaution. Robbins sustained an apparent neck injury late with 1:56 remaining in the second period. Officials declared the game over at halftime.

Wayne County racked up 373 yards of total offense, with quarterback Austin Whitson throwing and running for a touchdown each.

The win was a much-needed one for the Mustangs, who had dropped two straight to rivals Lawrence County and Forrest. It was the first home victory in nearly a year, dating back to a 12-7 Pegasus Cup victory over Summertown last September.
