McGavock is starting to figure it out under first-year head football coach Fred Burnette.

Behind a two-touchdown performance and 127 yards rushing from running Chris Lacy, McGavock beat region 6-6A rival Antioch 28-13.

The Raiders evened their overall and record to 4-4 and are 2-2 in the region. A win over either Smyrna or La Vergne in their last two games will give McGavock a playoff berth for the first time since 2019.

“The players are starting to realize the importance of accountability as they are more focused on Raider football and understanding how to fight through adversity,” Burnette said.

Besides the two touchdowns by Lacy, the Raiders got rushing touchdowns from both Demitrius Bell and Isaiah Burns and a two-point conversion run by Travis Dillard.

Defensively, the Raiders were led by linebacker Chaz Blunt’s 14 tackles, which included three tackles for loss and a sack. Defensive end Javon Ekuaze added two sacks as well.

Antioch (0-7) is still looking for their first win of the season and have lost nine consecutive games dating back to last season.
