The Connection has named its 2020 All-Robertson County girls soccer team.
White House Heritage midfielder Bayleigh Ballard took Most Valuable Player honors in her senior season. East Robertson’s Peyton Lackey was named Offensive Player of the Year. Heritage’s Kali Perez was named Defensive Player of the Year, and her coach Mark Redferrin was awarded Coach of the Year in his first season as the coach of the Lady Patriots.
The All-Robertson County soccer team was picked from East Robertson, Greenbrier, Springfield and Heritage. Players from White House will be named to the All-Sumner County Team.
Nominations and statistics were submitted by all four head coaches, and The Connection staff made final decisions on the awards. The full team is listed below:
Most Valuable Player: Bayleigh Ballard, WH Heritage senior midfielder
District 9-AA regular season Most Valuable Player, 17 goals, 13 assists
Ballard played all over the field from defender to forward this season. She made dynamic runs off the ball and improved her physicality on the field. She was capable of scoring goals herself but also set her teammates up to score off of corner kicks and set pieces.
Offensive Player of the Year: Peyton Lackey, East Robertson junior forward
District 8-A Offensive Player of the Year, 24 goals, 5 assists
Lackey missed four games this season and still managed to put up a solid season of stats. She scored six and five goals in two of her games this season. Lackey’s speed forced opposing teams to double mark her, but she remained effective, despite the added challenge.
Defensive Player of the Year: Kali Perez, WH Heritage junior defender
Perez is a second-year starter and a strong central defender on the Lady Patriots’ back line. Redferrin trusts her as the final line of defense due to her one-on-one skill. With her as the defensive leader, Heritage held their opponents to a total of eight goals over their final 10 games.
Coach of the Year: Mark Redferrin, WH Heritage
Redferrin finished his first season as the head coach of the Lady Patriots, picking up the program right where Rett Roach left off. For the second consecutive season, Heritage fell one win shy of making the state tournament. The team played well throughout the year, and the future is bright under Redferrin.
