Last week we named this season’s All-Robertson County boys basketball team. Now, it’s the girls’ turn.

It is time to honor the athletes who gave us such a successful season:

Player of the Year - Brooke Dowlen, junior guard, Jo Byrns

22 ppg, 7 rpg, 3 spg, District 9-A Player of the Year, District 9-A All-Tournament, Region 5-A All-Tournament

Dowlen returns as the Robertson County Player of the Year. She was a consistent force for the Lady Devils, and every opponent’s defensive gameplan started with trying to limit her. Often playing the entire game, her versatility and consistency on both sides of the floor gave Jo Byrns a constant sense of security. Dowlen became a 1000-point scorer this year in her junior season, but when she draws defenders to her, she can find her teammates for open looks.

Coach of the Year - Jessica Holt, Jo Byrns

Holt has been at this a while. For almost two decades she has walked the sideline, and she wants to see her current group of girls through to the end. She has developed them through the years and took them to the sectional round once again. Holt will have one more opportunity with Dowlen, Grayson Bryant and Reese Payne before they all graduate, and she may follow them out the door.

Team of the Year - Jo Byrns Lady Devils

The Jo Byrns Lady Devils were the only team in the county to make it win a game in the postseason. Their season ended at the same stage as the last two years: one win shy of the state tournament. The Lady Devils still had a spectacular season, compiling an 18-5 record and earning a share of the regular-season district title. They lost to three teams all season, including three losses to Houston County, but defeated teams much larger than themselves, finishing 4-0 against East Robertson, Greenbrier and White House Heritage.
