East Robertson sophomore Peyton Smith was difficult to hit this spring, and the Middle Tennessee baseball community has taken notice.

Smith was named to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association All-State Class A team on July 26. That came on the heels of him earning All-County Most Valuable Player from The Connection earlier this summer.

The right-hander finished with a 0.83 ERA and a 0.70 WHIP. He allowed just 29 hits in 67.1 innings pitched. He was also the Indians third-leading hitter thanks to his .359 average.

Smith’s fastball touched 90 mph at times, helping him maintain a 6:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He struck out 116 batters and issued just 18 free passes. That has drawn the attention of Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Xavier, Tennessee Tech and other colleges.

He played for Team Tennessee in the 25th Annual Junior Sunbelt Classic in early June, along with other top players from the state. Tennessee finished 7-3 and was eliminated by Georgia. Smith made two appearances and tossed 6.2 innings, surrendering seven hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight.

Smith also earned recognition from Tennessee Baseball Report last month. He was tabbed as one of five Robertson County players on the All-Region 5 team.
