Bats were on display when the East Robertson softball team hosted White House Monday.

The Lady Indians scored six runs in the first three innings, and the Lady Devils scored at least one run each of the first five innings. Each team homered twice.

The Lady Devils were unable to get a run to home plate despite a lead-off single.

In the bottom of the inning, sophomore Maci Ryan reached on a lead-off walk. Kaley Ezell moved her to second. Junior Olivia White knocked a double into left field to score Ryan and win the game for the Lady Indians.

Ryan finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate with a walk, scoring three runs including a second-inning home run.

“Maci’s the most multi-dimensional kid that I have,” ERHS head coach Kevin Evans said. “She’s left-handed, but she’s good at the infield. She’s good at the outfield, but from a batting standpoint, she slaps for us. She can drag; she can bunt.”

Evans has been confident in this team since day 1. He has high hopes of what they can do once they reach the postseason, and he thinks they are on their way.

“Offensively, I think we’re where we need to be,” Evans said. “Defensively, we’ve played fairly clean. There’s some things that we can clean up, and our pitching is starting to come along. We’re starting to incorporate some of our freshman pitchers in some of the games, and that’s where we need the most work.”

For White House head coach Cindy Towers, her young team is trying to get better everyday. The success they want may be a ways away, but she believes they will continue to make strides.

“The majority of my infield is freshmen, so that being said, we’re gonna get better,” Towers said. “We’re going to learn. I know that they want to win. I know they want to do good, and we will down the road. I have faith in them. I really do think so.”
