After a dominant win over White House Heritage last week, the Springfield Yellow Jackets continued their impressive start to the season with a 38-0 home victory over Station Camp on Friday.

Dual-threat quarterback Kevontez Hudson carried the Yellow Jackets with four total touchdowns as Springfield got off to a blistering start in the first quarter.

“We’ve been on the good side of things the past couple of nights, but we just need to continue to work hard and we can’t be satisfied,” Springfield coach Dustin Wilson said. “We’ve had a target on our backs after being successful for a little while, and right now we’ve just got kids that need to learn lessons about what comes with success.”

After forcing a three-and-out on defense, Hudson scored on a 95-yard run on Springfield’s first play from scrimmage.

The Yellow Jacket defense forced a fumble on the ensuing Bison drive. Four plays later Hudson scored his second touchdown on a one-yard run.

Hudson’s third touchdown came later in the first quarter, this time through the air as he connected with Gabe Kelly for a six-yard pass. That gave Springfield a 21-0 lead.

Station Camp’s offense finally picked up a first down on its fourth drive of the night, moving inside Springfield’s 10-yard line thanks to a 41-yard run from Ray Davis. The drive ended with a Bison field goal attempt, but the kick was blocked.

“We’re expecting more out of our guys, and right now our main problem is just a lack of execution,” Station Camp coach Brent Alexander said. “We suffered some turnovers tonight and we’re just not at the point of being ready to play this season, and that’s where our focus is at.”

The Yellow Jackets responded with a seven-play drive that ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Lamarious Daniels.

Springfield scored on every possession in the first half, and their last came with a little over a minute remaining. Hudson threw his second touchdown pass of the night on a screen pass to Jalen Jones, who took it to the house for a 16-yard score.

“We have several young guys in the backfield that have developed in the past couple of weeks,” Wilson said. “They’ve played in freshman and (junior varsity) games, but there’s nothing like getting Friday night carries (with) the speed, the intensity and the hits. It’s all great experience for those young kids.”

With the remainder of the game firmly in Springfield’s control, the Yellow Jackets gave more playing time to their backups on both sides of the ball. A 30-yard field goal by Luis Diaz Jijon served as the only points scored in the second half. The field goal came after an interception by Kelly.

Hudson finished the night with 122 rushing yards and 134 passing yards, while Daniels added 102 rushing yards on 11 carries. Davis led Station Camp with 102 rushing yards.

Springfield improved to 4-0 and will host White House at home next Friday, Sept. 18. Station Camp (0-4) will seek its first win of the season versus Rossview. Both games kick off at 7 p.m.
