The Springfield High School girls soccer team began their season in fine fashion at the Portland High School play day on Saturday, Aug. 3.
The Lady Jackets played four abbreviated games and came away with three wins and a tie on the day against Jackson County, Greenbrier, Providence Christian Academy and Franklin-Simpson.
"I am so proud of these girls and their teamwork,” Springfield coach AnnMarie Turpen said. “We left everything on the field. They represented Springfield with respect and pride, and I am looking forward to the season.”
In the four shortened games, sophomore Molly Smith netted 10 goals while senior Alex Griffis and sophomore Reyna Torres each tallied a goal. The stingy Lady Jacket defense was led by seniors Victoria Brummett and Adi Solis and only surrendered five goals in the four games.
The Lady Jackets kick off their regular season Aug. 21.
