Mt. Juliet's Stephen Swoner catches the snap. August 6, 2021.

Mt. Juliet's Stephen Swoner catches the snap.

The regular season is coming, and so are more the statewide capsules.

This is my 26th year covering high school football in Tennessee, and just like in years past, I'm ready to drop my yearly statewide capsules for all nine classifications.

I’m excited to join the great reporters and writers at Main Street Media and their various newspaper properties as well as MainStreetPreps.com.

So for the eighth straight season here is the fifth installment of my Statewide Capsule Series as Class 5A is spotlighted.

Included in this statewide capsule series will be the team capsules, a list of new 5A head coaches as well as the longest winning and losing streaks in 5A going into the 2021 season.

Also, there is a list of the longest tenured head coaches in 5A, the schools that are new to 5A this season and teams that were 5A last season but because of reclassification have moved to another classification.

All 48 5A schools participated and their information is listed in alphabetical order by district.

New Faces In New Places- There are 10 new Class 5A coaches in 2021: Josh Hensley, Cherokee; Matt Chandler, Tennessee High; Todd Loveday, Sevier County; Goose Manning, Ooltewah; Dedric Maffett, Howard; Anthony Brown, Hillsboro; William Thomas, Hunters Lane; John Moore, Columbia; Reynaldo Pena, Northwest and Wes Inman, Portland
