2021 All-Sumner County girls soccer teams announced

Following a spectacular season on the pitch, the time has come for Main Street Preps to announce its All-Sumner County soccer teams.

Headlining this year’s All-County teams are Player of the Year (Elle Williams, Station Camp), Offensive Most Valuable Player (Emrie Springs, Station Camp), Defensive Most Valuable Player (Hannah Clark, Hendersonville), Goalkeeper of the Year (Kenzie Campbell, Portland), Freshman of the Year (Sydney Arreza, Merrol Hyde), Newcomer of the Year (Ayden Wood, Fr., Station Camp), Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Maddie Owen, Hendersonville), Team of the Year (Merrol Hyde), and Coach of the Year (Jason Bentley, Merrol Hyde).

The All-Sumner County soccer teams are comprised of eight county high schools with coaches sending in nominations for their student-athletes. Area coaches were also contacted before the sports staff made final decisions.

Along with superlatives, the All-Sumner County soccer teams consist of two teams honoring 26 girls in total. Congratulations to all those who were named to the All-County team and Merrol Hyde Magnet School on bringing home their first state soccer title in program history.

Player of the Year — Elle Williams, Jr., Station Camp

Stats: 23 goals, 7 assists. 6 goals, 2 assists in the postseason.

Offensive Most Valuable Player — Emrie Springs, So., Station Camp

Stats: 23 goals, 3 assists. 7 goals, 1 assist in the postseason.

Defensive Most Valuable Player — Hannah Clark, Sr., Hendersonville

Goalkeeper of the Year — Kenzie Campbell, Sr., Portland

Stats: 108 saves, 2 goals scored, District MVP, All Tournament

Freshman of the Year — Sydney Arreza, Fr., Merrol Hyde

Arreza scored 31 goals this season, including 4 in the state tournament. She tallied 7 assists, and was named to the District 8A First-Team

Newcomer of the Year: Ayden Wood, Fr., Station Camp

Stats: 20 goals, 16 assists. 6 goals, 3 assists in the postseason.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Maddie Owen, Sr. Hendersonville

Stats: A 4-year varsity starter, Owen will play college soccer at Berry College. She maintains a 3.9 GPA with honors and AP. She is also a member of the CNA dual enrollment program at HHS, as well as Honor Society, Beta Club, Girls State Delegate, Annual Staff, and Student Council.

Team of the Year — Merrol Hyde Lady Hawks

Finished 18-1-1 this season winning the Class A Championship over Alcoa, 2-0. The Hawks surrendered 11 goals this season in 20 games and shutout 12 opponents, including all three state qualifiers in Chattanooga.

Coach of the Year — Jason Bentley, Merrol Hyde

Jason Bentley steered Merrol Hyde to the school’s first-ever state soccer championship this past October with a 2-0 win over Alcoa in the Class A Finals at CHI Memorial Stadium in Chattanooga.

F: Katie Shea Collins, So., Pope Prep

Stats: 21 goals, 9 assist in only 9 games. Collins was also named DII-AA All Region.

F: Caroline Cooper, Fr., White House

Stats: 16 goals, 3 assists. She was also named District 9 Offensive MVP.

F: Katie Whiting, Sr., Pope Prep

Stats:11 goals, 13 assists, All-Region.

MF: Annabelle Procter, Sr., Hendersonville

MF: Sydney Richardson, Jr., White House

Stats: 6 goals, 5 assists, District MVP.

MF: Julia Lewis, Sr., Merrol Hyde

Stats: 13 goals, 5 assists, All-District 8A.

MF: Carmen Perkins, Jr., White House

Stats: 11 goals, 4 assists, District 9-AA MVP.

D: Carlee Zettergren, Sr., Merrol Hyde

Stats: 14 clean sheets in 19 games. Zero goals surrendered at state.
