GALLATIN – The first scrimmage of the preseason was cut short Friday night at Gallatin High School with the Green Wave and Rockvale Rockets battling for a little over an hour before lightning interrupted.

Despite the abbreviated scrimmage good things happened for the Green Wave as they dominated both sides of the ball for the 5-1 victory.

“I wanted to see us compete today and I wanted us to fix some ball security issues we had from earlier in the spring,” head coach Chad Watson said of what he was looking for from his guys. “I thought we did both of those things pretty well. I do want to see some better communication defensively because we did have an issue lining up once so we must get that cleaned up. We still have a lot of things to get cleaned up before week one but I think our guys were mentally focused when we got here.”

Offensively the Wave were sound, scoring four touchdowns on all four possessions with three touchdowns coming on the ground from senior running back Spencer Briggs.

“We are expecting a big season out of him,” Watson said of his back. “He can’t do any of that without the guys in front of him and he will be the first one to tell you that. He appreciates them and they have a good relationship. He wasn’t fully healthy last year so he is running full go for the first time in awhile.”

Gallatin’s other offensive score came on an Isaiah Briscoe pass to senior Luke Springer on a go-route down the right sideline.

“I thought Isaiah did a good job tonight,” Watson added. “The biggest thing with Isaiah is he has all the God given ability to get the job done he just needs to make good decisions with the football and I thought he did a good job of that today.”

Gallatin also scored on a fumble recovery from Soloman Yarbrough.

Rockvale scored their only touchdown of the evening against the Wave’s second team unit just before storms rolled through ending the scrimmage.

The Green Wave will be back in action this Tuesday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m. against CPA.
