Tigers advance to Friday's semifinals --
COOKEVILLE -- RayQuan Verge swished four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points as Watertown eliminated Macon County 68-64 in Tuesday's District 8-AA quarterfinal game at Tennessee Tech's Hooper Eblen Center.
With the win, the Purple Tigers improved to 18-10 on the season and will take on Livingston Academy Friday in an 8:30 p.m. semifinal contest at TTU.
Macon County led 12-11 after one period, but Watertown drew even at 24-24 at intermission. WHS gained the advantage with a 22-19 third period and a 22-21 final eight minutes.
Verge connected on 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Heath Price added 14 points (along with 10 rebounds) and Brandon Allison 12 points -- with three 3-pointers.
Aidan Usher and Jared Tomson had eight points apiece while Griffin Creswell had three and Quanterius Hughes-Malone two. Tomson passed out nine assists and Usher pulled nine rebounds.
As a team, Watertown shot 51 percent from the field (20-of-39), 67 percent on 3-pointers (8-of-12) and 71 percent at the line (20-of-28).
TIGER TALE -- With his 14-point effort against Macon County, Heath Price went over the 1,000-point mark in his Watertown career.
