CPA’s Travis Odom was named the Main Street Preps Hitter of the Year, Independence’s Robert Hassell was named the Player of the Year, and Summit’s Chris McElvain was named the pitcher of the Year

After reaching the Class AAA state tournament, the Summit Spartans and Independence Eagles dominated the Main Street Preps All-Williamson County baseball team.

The awards continue to pile up for Independence’s Robert Hassell, who was named the Williamson County Player of the Year, while Indy coach Mike McLaury was named the Coach of the Year.

Summit’s Chris McElvain was named the Pitcher of the Year, while CPA’s Travis Odom earned Hitter of the Year. The full all-county team is listed below:

Player of the Year: Robert Hassell, Independence

2019 pitching stats: 5-2, 1.06 ERA, 113 Ks, 59 IP

2019 hitting stats: .423 average, 14 HR, 36 RBIs, 36 R

After being named the Gatorade and District 11 AAA Player of the Year, it was hard to deny Hassell as the best baseball player in Williamson County. Hassell was also a Mr. Baseball finalist and the District 11 AAA tournament MVP.

Pitcher of the Year: Chris McElvain, Summit

2019 stats: 7-1, 0.26 ERA, 102 Ks, 53 IP, .128 opposing batting average

McElvain appeared unhittable at times in 2019, posting a miniscule 0.26 ERA and striking out 102 batters. The Vanderbilt commit helped lead Summit to a regular-season district championship and an appearance in the state tournament.

Hitter of the Year: Travis Odom, CPA

2019 stats: .441 average, 11 HR, 45 RBIs, 14 doubles

The Auburn commit was a Mr. Baseball finalist in Division II-A and instrumental in leading CPA to the state championship game before losing to CAK. Odom’s power was hard to shutdown, leading the Lions in home runs and RBIs.

Coach of the Year: Mike McLaury, Independence

McLaury coached the Eagles to their first district championship in eight years in his first year at the helm. Independence fell in the region championship, but made a little noise in the state tournament with a win over Arlington before being eliminated by Riverdale.
