SMYRNA -- Blackman High School went on the road and ruined senior night for the Stewarts Creek Red Hawks as they defeated both the boys and girls teams by wide margins on Tuesday.

The Lady Blaze beat Stewarts Creek 70-49, while the Blackman boys defeated the Red Hawks 51-35.

It was a close matchup after the first quarter as the Blackman boys held a 19-15 lead after three makes from deep by Jordan Burchfield.

“They came out in zone and they gave me a lot of space, and coach told us that if we got any room than let it go.” Burchfield said.

In the second quarter, the Blaze defense clamped down as they allowed the Red Hawks to score only four points and took a 29-19 lead into halftime.

Kailon Benton-Hamilton connected on his third shot from 3-point range in the third quarter to help the Blaze widen their lead.

Jalen Page and Jalen Stayton both hit 3-point shots in the fourth quarter to finish off the game for the Blaze and give their team nine made 3s in the game.

The Lady Blaze became too much to handle early in the contest as Jaida Bond connected on two 3s, while Nia Van Zant and Iyana Moore scored on three of their own in the first quarter.

“I was just trying to play good defense and it helped carry over to offense, and my shots started falling.” Bond said.

The defense was strong for the Lady Blaze in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Red Hawks 18-9 in the quarter.

Bond found the bottom of the net once again with a 3 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach for the Lady Red Hawks.

Victoria Page helped seal the game in the final period of play as she scored six points to make it a 70-49 final.
