Ravenwood's Ben Elliott (32) tries a spin move to get to the Brentwood goal

BRENTWOOD -- The Ravenwood Raptors lacrosse team ran their win streak to four games, topping the Brentwood Bruins 8-4 on Wednesday night in the “Battle of the Woods.” It was Ravenwood’s sixth win in the last seven matches.

“This is the first really huge game of the year for us,” Ravenwood coach Alan Garner said. “We lost this game last year, and this year our guys were ready to play. It gives our guys some confidence and hopefully that will last throughout the rest of the year.”

Ravenwood ‘s offense caught fire in the first quarter, putting up three goals on the Bruins defense. Senior Jacob Firek scored two of the three goals in the period with the other coming from junior Liam Hussey. Brentwood’s only goal in the first period came from freshman Nate Johnson.

The Raptors added one goal in the second quarter on a strike from Firek before the Bruins rallied with two goals from seniors Matt Martin and Will Grisham to cut the halftime score to 4-3.

Ravenwood continued the offensive fireworks in the third quarter when senior Parker Colton scored a goal before Firek and sophomore Connor Pace contributed two more goals in the period to run the Raptor lead to 7-3.

In the fourth, Brentwood added a goal from freshman Jack Hales to cut the Ravenwood lead to just three.

“It is great for the future, we are really excited for it,” Brentwood coach Tom Petit said. “We wish we had more (talented freshman), but we are so happy with the way they are playing right now.”

Ravenwood added an insurance goal from Colton later in the fourth for the 8-4 lead. Brentwood made a desperate push in the final minutes, but to no avail. Firek led all scorers with 4 goals.

“(Firek) works hard in practice and is the guy who drives us,” Garner said. “He shares the ball and when he gets the chance to score he puts the ball in the back of the net.

“We are going to bounce back and work to get back on the winning streak,” Petit added.
