Oct. 5th at Tom Sawyer State Park --
LOUISVILLE, KY -- Lebanon High junior Aiden Britt ran a blistering 15:20 to place second in a field of some 407 runners in the prestigious Greater Louisville Classic 5K held Saturday afternoon at Tom Sawyer State Park.
The event, hosted by Louisville's Eastern High School and the Louisville Sports Commission, was won by Conner O'Shea, a senior at Madison Central High (Ky.) who completed the course in a time of 15:16.
The race drew entrants from all over Kentucky as well as some of the top individuals and teams from Missouri, West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio.
Three other Wilson Countians posted Top 50 performances, including the Mt. Juliet High tandem of Aaron Isbell who placed 26th overall with a time of 16:29 and Henry Griffin who ran 41st with a time of 16:46.
Wilson Central High's contingent was led by senior Alex Galligan who placed 42nd in a clocked time of 16:47.
Here's how the rest of the Wilson Central team fared: Andrew Farber (79th) 17:18; Elliott Hughes (93rd) 17:23; Jacob Harzbecker (98th) 17:25; Atticus Simon (198th) 18:15 and Lane Watson (225th) 18:30.
In a field of some 57 teams, Wilson Central placed 11th - 10 points out of tenth place.
High school girls race --
Wilson Central entered an entire six-member team in the race with two Lady Wildcats placing in the Top 75 of a field of 319 runners.
WCHS junior Diana Denemark placed 59th, running the 5K in a time of 20:33 and sophomore Makenna Merkley finished 63rd in a time of 20:35.
Here's how the remaining members of the Wilson Central squad scored: Elina Malancea (147th) 22:08; Autumn Herman (174th) 22:45; Mia Jones (202nd) 23:15 and Kaitlyn Randolph (238th) 24:06.
WCHS placed 17th out of 42 teams.
