Storm damages athletic facilities –

GLADEVILLE – Heavy winds early Tuesday morning inflicted serious damage to the baseball facility at Wilson Central High School.

The right field scoreboard was destroyed and large sections of outfield fencing are down.

“There will be no extracurricular activities today,” said Wilson Central athletic director David Jennings.

“In addition to the baseball field, there’s damage to the softball scoreboard and a light pole, a fence on the tennis courts is bent in half and there was some damage to our soccer field.

“Our first priority is to see if we can get the softball field ready because we host the district tournament this weekend.”

The Wilson Central baseball field annually serves as the host site of the TSSAA Division II-AA baseball tournament. Competition is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 25.

“This is an insurance issue,” Jennings said. “As of right now, we aren’t allowed access to our facilities until the insurance folks allow us.”
