In Friday's TSSAA Sectional --

Wilson Central's softball team visits Dickson County Friday for a TSSAA Sectional contest, needing a win to advance to next week's Spring fling in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Wildcats (25-14-2) dropped a tough 3-2 loss to Springfield in Tuesday's Region 5-AAA championship game. Dickson County, the Region 6-AAA champ, stands 21-17-2 after defeating Summit 6-5.

Wilson Central saw a 2-1 lead vanish in the bottom of the seventh as Springfield (34-10) scored twice on an unusual play.

With two runners aboard, Springfield junior Abbie Peach laid down a squeeze bunt to score Hannah Richardson from third.

Richardson collided with Wilson Central catcher Grayce Guethlein, knocking the ball to the backstop.

Springfield’s Ellie Friedmann then alertly sprinted home from second and slid in safely for the winning run.

Brie Asmondy was stellar on the mound and at the plate for Springfield. The ninth grader pitched a complete game three-hitter and bopped a solo home run in the fourth.

Kaylee Richetto took the tough-luck loss, allowing just two hits, walking two and striking out one.

Freshman infielder Taelor Chang paced the Lady Wildcat offense with a pair of singles. Shelby Moore added a single.
