Eagleville freshman pitcher Addisyn Linton threw a ho-hitter, striking out 15 as Eagleville defeated Dresden 1-0 in a Class A winners’ bracket game on Wednesday.
Senior Zoe Ellis scored the game’s only run, which was unearned, on a throwing error by Mollie Oliver when Emmaline Whitt was at the plate.
District rivals Eagleville and Huntland will play Thursday at 4 p.m. at StarPlex Field No. 1.
The winner gets to say there and will play for a championship on Friday at 2 p.m.
The loser will have to play early at 9 a.m. Friday morning to reach the title game.
“The game should not have been that way,” Eagleville coach Bridgette Elmore said. We have to get the bats going as we will play a different team tomorrow. (Zoe) Ellis was a leader right there and if we don’t have that hit it is a different ball game.”
The two pitchers, Linton and Dresden sophomore Eva Stafford, combined to have strikeouts on 10 of the first 12 outs.
Stafford went the distance, striking out eight, allowing three hits and walking one.
Linton was so dominant that no ball Dresden hit reached the outfield.
To end the game, Annilea Jolley attempted a bunt that was popped and caught by Linton. She then whirled around to throw to Stokes to double off Kaci Finney at second base to clinch the no-hitter.
In two state tournament games, all three of Eagleville’s runs they have scored have been unearned. Linton has struck out 25, walked eight and given up one earned run.
