Five Rutherford County standouts named Mr. Football semifinalists




Five Rutherford County football players have been named the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards semifinalist as announced by the TSSAA.

Oakland running back Xavier Myers, Oakland defensive back/receiver Woodi Washington, Oakland kicker Garrett Taylor, MTCS running back Kemari McGowan and Eagleville’s Ethan Cobb were all named semifinalists on Thursday.

Myers leads the Patriots in rushing, having gone over the 100-yard mark all 10 regular-season games. He is a former Mt. Football winner at Nashville Christian.

 McGowan has led the MTCS offense all season, rushing for more than 1,500 yards, while Cobb (a Mr. Football semifinalist last year) has thrown for over 1,000 yards and rushed for almost 1,000 yards.

Washington, and Oklahoma commit, has led the Patriots defense all season and has been a valuable offense weapon with five touchdowns.

Taylor has handled both the punting and kicking duties for the Patriots, who are ranked No. 2 in the state.

The Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards will be presented to the top football players in nine classifications on Sunday, Nov. 25 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.  

For the 17th consecutive year, the top kicker in the state will be recognized with a Mr. Football Award, regardless of classification.  

Three finalists for each category will be announced by Mike Keith on the Titans website at www.titansonline.com on Monday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
