Rockvale looked as if it was going to win its first region game under coach Rick Rice on Friday after earning the program’s first-ever win the previous week at Franklin County.

Unlike the previous week when the Rockets scored with 25 seconds remaining in the game, it was Warren County which struck last with a long pass to give the Pioneers a 18-13 victory at Rockvale.

“Talk about a heartbreak,” Rice said. “That was a tough one to take. It really stuck a dagger a little bit and I felt for the kids. I was sick to my stomach when they completed that long pass for a touchdown.

“They’ve got a quarterback with a few offers who just made a play for them. We just couldn’t finish and we’ve got to find a way to do that.”

Rockvale’s Logan Nowacki threw for 84 yards and a touchdown and also added nine carries for 22 yards. Grayson Smith had 18 carries foar 57 yards and a touchdowon. Anthony Thiphavong had three catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Landon Starnes had seven tackles, including one for a loss, and Skylen Bounphongsy forced a fumble.

Rockvale (1-2, 0-1) plays at Clarksville (0-1) this week.

Howard 21, MTCS 14

The Cougars jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter on touchdown passes from Aiden Hooper to Hunter Harris and Aiden Nelson.

However, Howard cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime and outscored the Cougars 14-0 in the second half.

“They’re a 4A school, so they’ve got about 1,000 students,” MTCS assistant coach Ed Watson said. “Last year was a blowout. All week, coach (BJ) Robertson talked about that we’re going down there to win this game. It wasn’t our best week of practice, but we were prepared. We had our opportunity, there was just some adversity that we couldn’t overcome.”

MTSU plays at Donelson Christian this week.

Forrest 19, Eagleville 7

It was a defensive game from the outset, with Forrest grabbing a 10-7 lead at halftime.

The Rockets added a safety and scored a touchdown on the final play of the game for the final outcome.

“I thought our kids played really hard and came to compete,” Eagleville coach Floyd Walker said. “Forrest is always well prepared, but we battled for four quarters. You tip your hat to Forrest, but also give our kids a lot of credit.

“I thought both defenses did a great job rallying to the ball and not giving up big plays. We had some breaks that didn’t go our way. We gave ourselves a chance, but just came up short.”

Eagleville QB Marcus Collins threw a touchdown pass to Kaden Snitzer, who had 73 yards receiving, and Dylan Pratt had 53 yards receiving. Donovin Darnell had eight tackles and a sack, Wyatt McLemore had seven tackles and Damian Stingley had six.
