TSSAA Cross Country finals set Saturday

Locals will run at Percy Warner Park —

HENDERSONVILLE — Mt. Juliet High turned in an impressive performance on the way to capturing the team title of the Region 5 Large Girls cross country championships Thursday, Oct. 24 at Sanders Ferry Park.

The entire Mt. Juliet team logged Top 25 finishes, including: Jalyn Jenkins, fifth in a time of 20:47; Lucy Ephrem, sixth at 21:03; Lindsey Armstrong, 10th at 21:25; Sydney Jaynes, 18th in a time of 22:20; Kasey Quezada, 20th at 22:28; Clair Luecke, 24th at 22:40 and Ashley Bergman, 25th in a time of 22:47.

Wilson Central’s Diana Denemark ran third in a field of 93 in a time of 20:12 while her teammate Makenna Merkley was right on her heels at 20:14 for fourth place.

Lebanon High senior India Mastin completed the course in 21:16 — good enough for eighth place.

WCHS ninth grader Autumn Herman ran a 22:02 and placed 16th.

Region 5 Large Boys —

HENDERSONVILLE — Seven Wilson Countians recorded Top 25 finishes in a field of 128 in the Region 5 Large Boys cross country championship hosted Thursday, Oct. 24 at Sanders Perry Park by Beech High School.

Lebanon High’s Aiden Britt ran a 15:52 and finished second behind Henry County’s Silas Winders, who won the 5K in a time of 15:48.

Mt. Juliet’s Henry Griffin placed sixth with a time of 16:46 followed by teammates Aaron Isbell in 10th (16:59) and Tyler Stewart, who ran in 11th place at 17:01.

Wilson Central senior Alex Galligan clocked a 17:05 for 12th place.

Central’s Andrew Farber placed 23rd at 17:35 while his teammate Tristan Lee ran a 17:39 for 25th place. 

The Mt. Juliet boys placed third as a team and will compete in Saturday’s state meet.  Team members include: Mena Helmy, Jorge Baeztrevino,  Isaac Walmsley, Kaden Phillips, Aaron Isbell, Tyler Stewart & Henry Griffin.

Division 1 Small —

Saturday’s TSSAA State Cross Country Championships at Percy Warner Park will see Watertown High well represented in the Small Division 5K race.

The boys race will feature the entire Watertown squad as the Purple Tigers placed third in the Region 4 Small meet at Percy Warner park.

Junior Braden Leffew led the way with a fifth place finish, clocking a time of 19:09.

Ninth grader Greer Davis finished sixth in 19:26, followed by sophomore Matthew McKinley in ninth at 19:42.

Rounding out the WHS effort: Jay Roderick in 22nd place at 21:52, Dylan Hight in 24th place at 22:02 and Bryant Felkins in 28th place at 22:47.

Leffew, Davis and McKinley earned All-Region status for their Top 10 finishes.

The girls race found Watertown High ninth grader Marissa Eitniear placing 13th in a time of 27:14 and senior Donna Evins running a 30:36 for 17th place — with both earning All-Region status.

Division 2-A races —

Friendship Christian will send two runners to the Saturday’s state meet — sophomore Hope Ilias and senior Nathan Mangrum.

Ilias, who became eligible earlier this month after a transfer from Mt. Juliet, finished second in the Division 2-A Middle Region Meet held Oct. 24 at Percy Warner Park.

Well known locally for winning Sherry’s Run three straight years as an elementary student, Ilias completed the 5K course in 20:35.

Mangrum placed ninth in the boys event at 17:58.

The Awards Ceremony will start following the completion of each classification.

Admission — $10 for school-age children and older. Championship Event Cards and TACA cards will be accepted for admission. The TSSAA ID card and TMSAA ID card are not accepted for championship events.

Parking — Parking is free at the many lots surrounding the Steeplechase. Metro Nashville Police will assist in parking and traffic control. Traffic becomes very congested on Old Hickory Boulevard around the site, so please allow ample time to find parking and be prepared for a lengthy walk to the gate.

Participant Info — Runners will be allowed to preview the Percy Warner Park Steeplechase Cross Country Course on Friday prior to the meet. The course will be open from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM CDT ONLY. Team packets will be available at this time. Teams may not practice or preview the course prior to Friday at 1:00 PM.

Concessions — Some food carts will be on site preparing food for purchase. Spectators and athletes may bring in their own food and beverages, but grills and other cooking devices are not permitted.
