NASHVILLE - Greenbrier senior Trey Semore tossed a gem against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet Monday night, keeping his team alive with a 7-0 victory in the Region 5-AA semifinals at Shelby Park.

Greenbrier (23-7) advanced to Wednesday’s Region 5-AA championship game at Sycamore. Martin Luther King was eliminated and finished its season with a 15-8 overall record. 

Semore, a Roane State signee, pitched seven shutout innings, gave up just three hits and struck out nine Royals. 

Fellow senior and Tennessee Tech signee Luke Jones had RBI doubles in the first and second innings, and he later hit a solo home run over the left field wall to make it 7-0 in the top of the seventh. Jones finished 3-for-4 with three RBI.

The Bobcats also had a run-scoring single from Casey Woodall RBI single in first, and a sac fly RBI from Chance Merithew in the third. 

Semore helped his own cause with a double that plated Merithew in the fifth, and Carter Preston followed with an RBI single one batter later. 

Martin Luther King sophomore Baron Patterson had two of his team’s three hits, and senior Memphis signee Brennan Dubose also had a base knock. Senior Josh James pitched a complete game for the Royals and gave up all seven runs.
