First of three on tap in Wilson County —

LEBANON — Ground breaking ceremonies were held earlier this week for a new indoor practice facility at Lebanon High School.

The LHS structure is the first of three to built in the county with Watertown and Wilson Central up next.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by the fall of this year.

The structures at LHS, WCHS and WHS will each be approximately 10,500 sq. feet. Lebanon’s building is located adjacent to the Tommy Boyd / Betty Rushing Tennis Courts.

Funding for the project was secured through a bond, and will be paid via mixed drink tax proceeds.

The $3,695,000 project package includes renovations to tennis courts at MJHS, LHS, WCHS and WHS.

““It is an exciting time for LHS and the Lebanon community,” said Blue Devil head coach Chuck Gentry. “This building is something we have looked forward to, since I got here in December 2016.

“It will give our athletes something to be proud of, and an opportunity to train regardless of the outside conditions. It’s a game changer for LHS athletes.”

The buildings will feature an artificial turf floor, much like existing indoor facilities at Mt. Juliet and one under construction at Green Hill High.

“I’m very happy this is taking place,” said School Board Chairman Larry Tomlinson. “It’s important for these high schools to have this type of facility, as it will help them become even more competitive.

“I’m also very proud that we were able to finance the projects through the mixed drink tax, so there’s no added costs to our taxpayers.”
