Memphis Business Academy football coach Wilder Lee resigns, will stay on as vice principal

Wilder Lee stepped up to serve as Memphis Business Academy’s football coach five games into the 2021 season.

Now he’s adjusting his focus again.

“Coach Wilder Lee is our vice principal, and he chose to focus more on that for next school year,” Memphis Business Academy athletic director Jerry Anthony said. “We will be hiring a (new) head football coach soon.”

Lee led the Exces to a 1-4 record after taking over midway through last season. This year MBA won its first two games against Harding Academy (34-13) and Macon Road Baptist (66-0) before dropping its final eight games.

“During Coach Lee’s time as head coach, he led us to three victories, but as vice principal, he is a vital part of our great school culture,” Anthony said. “With him now spending 100% of his time as vice principal, it makes our school a better place for learning.”

MBA, which was established in 2005, just completed its fourth varsity football season. The Execs are still seeking their first TSSAA playoff berth.

Currently eight schools in Cleveland, Huntland, Kingsbury, Knoxville Catholic, Livingston Academy, Memphis Business Academy, White County and Wilson Central are in the market for a head coach.

Recruiting update

Three more players made their college decisions this week.

Lebanon offensive lineman Aidan Donald committed to UT Chattanooga, Nolensville defensive star Taylor Wein committed to Oklahoma and Lausanne quarterback Brock Glenn flipped his commitment from Ohio State to Florida State.

*Donald (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) chose Chattanooga over offers from Alcorn State, Army, Austin Peay, ETSU, Eastern Kentucky, Fordham, Furman, Lehigh, Navy, North Alabama, Southeast Missouri State, South Florida, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.

Donald is a former tight end who earned back-to-back All-Region 3-6A honors with the Blue Devils.

“Aidan is a long athlete with lots of upside, and he is an aggressive offensive lineman who likes to finish blocks,” Lebanon coach Chuck Gentry said. “He is a competitor, and he will excel with a college weight program and training table.”

*Wein (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) made 63 tackles from his defensive end spot for the Knights, who finished 12-1.

He chose the Sooners over Akron, Austin Peay, Ball State, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, USC, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Illinois State, Jacksonville State, Kent State, Miami (OH), North Alabama, Ohio University, Tennessee Tech, Troy, and UT-Martin.

*Glenn (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) originally committed to the Buckeyes in July but had a change of heart and will head to Tallahassee instead.

Glenn, who had over 30 offers, passed for 1,413 yards and 18 touchdowns as he led the Lynx (8-2) to the Division II-AA semifinals, where they lost to CPA.
