Middle’s Tennessee Christian’s girls fell in a 4-3 heartbreaker to St. George’s in Tuesday Division II Class A state tennis semifinals at the Adams Tennis Complex.

The Lady Cougars battled St. George’s to the final game of the doubles matches before dropping the 4-3 decision.

“I believe our girls have been playing their best tennis, and even though we fell short today, I still believe they played their best tennis,” MTCS coach Lawrence Goodwyn said. “They fought till literally the last point, and I could not be more proud of them.”

Alex Pachiarz (6-2, 6-3) and Evie Boyd (6-3, 6-5) won in straight sets of singles play to force two must-win double matches for the Lady Cougars.

“(Pachiarz) has been rock solid for us all year and she wins big matches for us from the two,” Goodwyn said. “Boyd came through with a much-needed win out of the No. 4 spot.”

Boyd paired with Ava Woodard, who pulled through with an 8-5 win. Region champions Pachiarz and Ashlyn Melton trailed for most of their match before coming back to take a 6-5 lead. St. George’s Hannah Grace Howell and Samantha Patton rallied late to take the decisive 8-6 match.

The Lady Cougars season rolls on with doubles play later in the week for Pachiarz, Melton, Boyd and Woodard. Play starts at 11:30 a.m on Thursday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
