Lebanon 10, Portland 3
PORTLAND -- Pitchers Jake Jewell and Austin Brown combined to strike out 13 and freshman Copeland Bradford belted a three-run homer as Lebanon downed District 9-AAA rival Portland 10-3 Thursday.
With the victory, Lebanon improved to 10-11 on the season and 4-4 in the district headed into a 6 p.m. game Saturday at Warren County High in McMinnville.
Jewell started and allowed four hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three with no walks.
Brown finished up and struck out 10 of the 15 batters he faced over the next four innings. Brown allowed two hits and did not walk a man.
The Blue Devils struck for three in the top of the first on a two-run single by Chase Birdwell, driving in Thomas Bryan and Ty Bailey. Corey Jones plated a Luke Bradshaw from third on an infield out.
LHS added three more in the second as Bryan, Bailey and Bradshaw drew two-out walks. Birdwell cleared the bases with a ringing double to left.
Bradford accounted for all three Lebanon runs in the third as he homered to left, chasing home Eli Carson and Jones who both reached on singles.
Bradshaw led off the third with a triple to right, then scored on an RBI single by Jewell.
Birdwell finished with a double and single, Jewell had two singles as Lebanon rapped out nine hits.
MJ Christian 6, Stratford 2
MT. JULIET -- Sophomore Dylan Boehm struck out 13 and allowed only three hits in Mt. Juliet Christian's 6-2 win over Nashville Stratford Thursday at Billie Friel Field.
The Saints upped their record to 6-13 with the win headed into a 4 p.m. Friday home game versus Franklin Road Christian.
Jack Crouch led the MJCA offensive attack with a 3-for-3 effort, driving in a run, and Boehm helped his own cause with an RBI single.
