NOLENSVILLE – For the first time in school history, both the girls and boys state lacrosse champions reside at Ravenwood. The Raptors topped the Collierville Dragons 18-7 on Saturday at Nolensville to take the TSLA state championship.

“We have some really solid players,” Ravenwood coach Alan Garner said. “Coach Peterson put in an offensive set that allows our kids to get free and play to their strengths.”

In the first quarter, Ravenwood was in the zone, scoring four goals in the frame. Senior Parker Colton scored two of the four goals, while other tallies came from Cesar Medina and junior Liam Hussey.

The Dragons only strike of the opening quarter came from junior Ben DiMento, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Ravenwood continued to sizzle in the second quarter, adding six more goals thanks to Parker Colton, Spencer Peetz, Jacob Firek, Hussey, Conor Pace, and Connor Jensen. Collierville answered with three goals before halftime to cut into the Raptors lead 10-4. All of the Dragons scores came from senior Ethan Boucher.

The Raptors continued to soar in the third quarter, riffling five goals in the period. Hussey lead the Raptors in scoring for the third quarter tallying two of the five scores. Junior Ben Elliot, freshman Connor Jensen, and sophomore Connor Pace contributed the other goals.

In the fourth quarter, Ravenwood padded its lead with three more goals. Colier Campbell and Hussey scored goals in the quarter. The other strike came from Firek.

Hussey led Ravenwood with five goals in the match.

“Hussey has probably had five goals in a game four times this year,” Garner said. “He is a hockey kid and has a knack of getting open. When he has the ball on his stick, good things usually happen.”

Collierville made one last stand to shrink the deficit in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals, but the Raptors finished off the Dragons 18-7 to seal the first state championship win fo Garner.

“I have been coaching down south for over 10 or 15 years,” Garner said. “This is my first title and I could not have done it without my coaching staff and these kids.”
