The allure of Siegel High School and Rutherford County football was too much to resist for Adam Renshaw.

The result was the Cleveland High School assistant football coach being named Siegel’s new head coach on Jan. 7.

“I’ve always kept up with them,” Renshaw, 46, said. “Of course, arguably the best football in the state is played here. It’s an awesome community and seemed like a great place to come and make a difference in kids’ lives.

“… There’s always a lot to sort through at the beginning, but the good thing is I’m excited about the good people I’m meeting. I got to meet the kids (Wednesday) and that’s what it’s all about. I’m excited about getting going and want to be part of Siegel as soon as possible.”

Renshaw indicated he will work out a two-week notice at Cleveland and then joking the program as soon as possible.

“I’m currently working to get there as soon as possible,” he said. “I have to finish out a two-week notice, and Cleveland has been good in helping out that I get to Siegel as soon as I can.”

Renshaw will replace Michael Copley, who spent three years at Siegel and posted an 8-22 record. The Stars didn’t make the playoffs during his tenure and finished 1-9 last season.

“We have some obstacles to get over just like any other football program,” he said. “The culture will be about overcoming obstacles. I need to get in here and get to know these boys and let them see what I’m about and then go to work knocking down walls.”

Renshaw has past head coaching experience, having spent nine years in that role at Dyer County.

“I was the head coach for nine years in Dyer County. I coached in the East-West All-Star game and was the offensive coordinator with (Brentwood coach) Ron Crawford. When he went to Cleveland I went to Cleveland with him. I think the world of him. He’s been my biggest influence.”
