LA VERGNE — Riverdale’s basketball teams passed easy road tests on the road Friday night and stayed undefeated in District 7 play as they both rolled past La Vergne in District 7-AAA action.

The Lady Warriors started off the night with a 77-58 victory, while the boys defeated the Red Hawks 64-42.

Deron Perry had 14 points for the Warriors, including two back breaking 3s in the second quarter that put the momentum firmly on his team’s side.

“They were trying to guard me tight, so I tried to get going and was looking for spots to find an open shot.” Perry said.

The Red Hawks were held to seven points in the first quarter but contained the Warriors, who had a distinct size advantage, to only 12 points.

Thirteen points by Elijah Cobb, including a put-back dunk that rattled the rim and the Red Hawks psyche, gave Riverdale momentum going into halftime.

The Red Hawks got a little bit of life in the third quarter as they outscored the Warriors 14-9 in the period. In the fourth Riverdale once again took advantage as five different players scored to close out the game.

An early advantage for the Lady Warriors gave them the control throughout the entirety of the game as they took the 19-point win.

In the first quarter, Jalyn Holcomb scored eight points, connecting on two 3- pointers to give Riverdale a 21-9 lead.

“Going into tonight we had to stop their transition and we had to box out to get the rebounds, and we went into it knowing there a tough team,” Holcomb said.

The Lady Red Hawks mounted some offense in the second quarter as they scored 14 to Riverdale’s 14.

Holcomb’s 16 points and fourth make from 3-point land in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Lady Warriors.
